Linda Volrath works in the traditional medium of oil, in a painterly representational style. The dominant subjects of her paintings are equine scenes, landscapes and still lifes. To capture the effects of light and atmosphere Linda paints landscapes en plein air and works under natural lighting in her studio for still lifes. For equine paintings, she works from her own sketches and reference material inspired by the equestrian events in Virginia's horse country and the Southwest. Painting is a passion in the artist's life and serves as her celebration of the gift of sight and creativity.

Linda worked as an Art Director and Illustrator for 15 years, during which time she studied with nationally renowned artist's who were carefully selected for their oil painting techniques and styles. She has had gallery representation since 1994 and mounted her first solo exhibition in 1999. Her work is included in many private collections, and in the permanent collections of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC and the Oatlands Historic Plantation, Leesburg, VA.

Linda is a native of northern Virginia. She and her husband, also an artist, met while painting in New Mexico, and now reside in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
